Can I stop doing clean intermittent cath of my own , when I can pass urine on my own by pushing at my abdomen(tummy) and straining, even though the urine comes in trickles and flow is not good.? every SCI person wants badly to lay off CIC as early as possible, but remeber that your pushing down to try and empty your bladder will cause ten other problems for you. high prressure produced in bladder by pushing down can hurt your bladder and kidneys badly over time. Straining predisposes you to repeated urinary infections, piles, rectal prolapse, stress urinary incontinece, hernia and many others…so don`t stop CIC until your doctor verifies by uroflow and urodynamics that your bladder functions are restored to normal.
